Over two years, some 100 young people across Liverpool will learn how to film, edit and take award winning pictures through a series of classroom based and practical lessons. Guiding Starz thanks The National Lottery Community Fund for this grant that made it possible for us to delivery our careers oriented project titled ” Youth Skills Learning Bootcamp.
Two professionals award winning photographer Michael Kirkham and trained journalist Francis Ngwa have started off the bootcamp with theory and practical lessons that have kept the young participants glued to their laptops, cameras and Adobe premiere pro video editors.
Josiah Ade, one of the particpants was said excitedly, “I have learnt a lot during this sessions and this will improve our limited filming and editing skills”.
During the filming and video lessons, facilitator Francis Ngwa made a powerpoint presentation titled “Filming & editing using adobe premiere pro”. The lessons were an introduction to filmmaking that including explain how they could tell their individual stories through the three stages of production viz; Pre-production, Production and Post production.
He also explained the different kinds of cameras on the market from Canon to Nikon cameras and how each can be used to record their stories, ideas and bring people into their world through the lenses of a camera.
In his own presentation, Photographer Michael Kirkham also introduced the young participants to photography including composition, colour, lights, etc. He also outlined the importance of Shutter speed, Iso and aperture.
Through practical lessons, Michael demonstrated the importance of lighting, composition and the technical settings and controls on each of the 5 cameras that were used for the training.
Project manager Vivian Ananie said she was glad the young participants were interested in the training and turned up on time for each lesson. “They are learning skills they could use later in life which is what the bootcamp is all about” she noted. m
